Sydney
5. Balmain
It’s a little bit out of town but once you get there you’d never know you were still in Sydney. Right on the water and with it’s own good collection of shops and restaurants, Balmain is a pretty place to spend some time. Careful of all the small and dead-end streets though. I was running around here till past dark trying to find my way back to the main one!
4. Glebe
Right around the corner from Balmain, Glebe is a sleepy little section of Sydney that few venture to. Right at the end of Glebe Point Road is Bicentennial Park and Blackwattle Bay Park joined by a path along the water. Not big enough to hold a full run on their own, they are still beautiful places to start or finish your exercise. The added bonus is one of the best views of the Anzac Bridge in town!
3. Manly
What kind of place has 2 beautiful beaches to run on within sight of each other? Manly. Run one beach, run through The Corso and you’re on the other beach. Run south on the outside beach along the path to Shelly Beach and then up the stairs in the Parkhill Reserve. The stony path can be a little tough to negotiate if you’re not used to it but the trail is well worth it. Go far enough and you’ll get to North Head and enjoy views of Sydney and South Head.
2. Bondi Beach
One of my favorite places to run in Sydney. Go south along the path on the water to Coogee or north through the suburbs to South Head. There are many other runners and walkers along the path so be courteous. Depending on the time of year, pay attention to the water near the shore, you might spot some whales.
1. Sydney Harbour
The best views in Sydney are from here. Start at the Harbour Bridge and work your way through didgeridoo players in Circular Quay and out to the Opera House. Take a short cut in front or go all the way around the famous icon and then around the path into the Royal Botanic Gardens. Pause for a break at one of the water fountains and then continue up into the Domain for more beautiful plant life and statues. Head straight back into the city or turn into Hyde Park to finish this gorgeous run.
